Interpreting Your Life

“The only real valuable thing is intuition.” ~Albert Einstein

In a previous post I talked a little bit about symbols in dreams.  The same archetypes and symbols we use to interpret dreams are present during our waking hours.  Our lives can be interpreted just as our dreams can.  AFter all, they’re both illusions!

Let’s start with some basics.  For instance our cars.  Our cars represent our path in life.  When we have a problem with our car we can use that to find out what the issue is in our life with which we must deal.

For instance, if your car runs out of gas, that’s fairly easy to interpret.  We use that expression to describe people already.  I ran out of gas simply means you overextended your physical energy.  You probably need to get some more sleep or use a better, healthier fuel for your body.  Perhaps you’re living on junk food or other unhealthy food and you should be using premium fuel for your body.  On the next level it may mean you are not feeding yourself emotionally or intellectually.  On the an even higher level it may mean you are not fueling your spiritual growth.  Can you see how these symbols work on different levels depending on where you are in life or just depending on what area of your life it applies?  Your intuition will tell you what the level is.

When the brakes in your car are failing then perhaps you are going to fast in some area of your life and need to apply the brakes.  Did you meet someone and are running headlong into a relationship? Perhaps you should slow down.  Reevaluate.  You need to stop and assess the area in your life to which it applies.  Put on the brakes and slow down.

Windshield wipers not working well?  Windshields cracked or broken.  Any type of window represents your sight, what you see, and how you see it.  Again, this applies to your physical sight as well as emotional, intellectual, and spiritual sight.  How are you looking at things? Is your vision of what is real is cracked, distorted, and unhealthy.  Are you blinding yourself to something in your life that you don’t want to see?  Are you seeing things without assuming, without prejudice, without anger.  Try to be as honest with yourself as you can be and make sure you see people and events in your life clearly, with good perspective.  Try to see things in their best light, but at the very least don’t make assumptions.

Electrical system out of wack?  Are you putting your energy into the wrong area of your life?  Prioritize.

Got rear-ended by another driver?  Do you need to give yourself a push, motivate yourself, do something you’ve been putting off, because you just got a kick in the butt.

Rear ended someone else?  You’re not seeing what is right in front of you.  You need to reassess so that you don’t end up crashing and burning.  Or, alternately, are you pushing yourself or someone else in a path that is not the right one?  Are you following your authentic life or will you come to another dead-end?  You can use your car to help understand your life.  If you find you are making wrong turns and getting lost frequently then maybe you need to reassess the direction your life is going in because you may be headed the wrong way.

Think of other ways the car and the roads you drive may represent your life.  Do you keep hitting potholes?  Is your car overheating?   Does the heater work?  Does the air conditioning work?

Your home represents you.  The basement is below the living area.  It represents the subconscious.  Is your basement full of junk?  If it is, you have issues in your subconscious to deal with, probably long held beliefs that are erroneous.  Examine your beliefs and make sure they align with your consciousness.  And clean out your basement in real life as a symbol of your commitment to growth.

The attic is at the top of the house.  It represents your mind.  Is the attic full of clutter?   Perhaps your mind is always racing and you need to practice stillness and be more mindful of your thoughts.  Declutter your thinking.  You tend to replay old thoughts and patterns in your mind.  YOu may hold on to petty injustices and resentments.  Try meditating to still your mind.   Forgive.  And empty your attic.

The kitchen is often called the heart of the home.  Is it a place in which you want to spend time?  If it is big enough, do people congregate there or do you prefer them to be in the living areas.  If you do then perhaps you need to open your heart more and let people in. You may not be letting them get close.  Be more emotionally intimate, allow yourself to be vulnerable and open to love and life.  Invite people into your kitchen and your heart.

Is your living room a place that you sit and watch TV or a place that you share in community with family or friends?  If it’s TV, then perhaps you are escaping from life and avoiding your dreams and fears.  Don’t escape from life in your living room.    Make your living room a place of community and growth.

Is your bedroom a mess?  The bedroom would represent the private you, or if in relationship, it may represent the relationship.  If it is cluttered and messy, it may be a sign that you may not take the time to nurture yourself or that you don’t feel you are worth the effort.  Or that you are not giving your relationship the attention it deserves.  Make your bedroom a sanctuary, so that you will nurture yourself and so that your relationship will be a place of trust and tranquility.  Throw in some passion, too.

Is your front yard full of weeds or a place of beauty?  The front yard often represents your future.  If it is full of weeds it is a sign that you may feel hopeless about your future.  If it’s a place of beauty; you may be putting on a good face and want everyone to think that your life is wonderful and you have it all together.  Is it a false facade to prevent people from seeing the real you, because you feel that the real you is not worth seeing?  This is especially true if the inside of your house is kind of a mess.  Conversely it may mean that you feel good about your future and yourself.

Is you backyard a mess or well done?  The back yard represents your past.  Have you cleaned up the old beliefs and indoctrination?  Have you dealt with past hurts and anger?  If your back yard is in good shape than your dealings with your past probably are, too.

From seeing these examples of how things in your life represent your journey you can extrapolate from here and find other ways in which the universe is trying to open your eyes to promote your growth and happiness.  I believe in universal symbols, archetypes, such as the warrior, the Goddess, the lion, but we also have cultural and personal symbols.  I think that in China an elephant is considered a symbol of wisdom, while in America the owl signifies wisdom.  On a personal level you have your own symbols.  Some might see the color green as representing money while others may think gold symbolizes wealth.  Try to see if you can identify any of your personal symbols as you explore this tool.

What are some of the symbols in these examples that ring true for you?  Tell us about some of your experiences and how you recognized what they meant in your life and beliefs.   Or after reading this you may look back on events and say. “Aha!  That’s what that meant!”  Don’t expect to wake up from this dream for a while.  The good thing is you’re not likely to forget it.

Some symbolic affirmations:

  • My intuition helps me recognize the symbols in my life.
  • I use the symbols the universe sends me to learn and grow.
  • My physical life represents my spiritual growth.  I will be aware of the messages given to me.
  • I use symbols in my surroundings to help me on my path.

Imagine that your life is a dream and interpret it.

Anxiety, Give me a freaking break!

” A happy man is too satisfied with the present to think too much about the future.”  ~Albert Einstein

We all get anxious.  It is part of the human condition.  We all get worried and stressed and let the anxiety take us for a, sometimes crippling, ride.  We’ve all been there.  It is natural to feel anxious at times.  Especially when we are waiting to see if we made the right decision.  Or if we are waiting for the result of a long held dream.  Or if we are worried the money won’t show up in time.  It is normal.

There are things we can do to help ease our anxiety.  We can take steps to calm ourselves and reassure ourselves.  Sometimes our homes, our jobs, our dreams are on the line.  How could we not feel anxious?  Virtually impossible.  It is how we are physically programmed.

So, how can we stop it from being debilitating, from taking over our lives with an endless tape loop of negativity and worry racing through our mind?  We need to recognize it first of all.  We need to recognize it as early as we can before it becomes an obsessive storm of worry and fear.  Fear can be overwhelming if we let it get that far.   Recognize it before your ego takes you on the ride called “Worst Case Scenario.”  Nobody wants to go on that ride, imagining the most awful things that could happen.  Remember that most of the time those worst case scenarios never show up.  Only in your ego driven mind.  Don’t send them an invitation!

When you start to feel anxious remind yourself that the universe is working in your best interest, then take three deep, clearing breaths.  As you breath in deeply through your nose think of love, as you breath out slowly through your mouth think of peace.  Do this three times at least.  If it feels right continue for a minute or two.  Feel love and peace.

The night time is usually the worst time for worries.  Anxiety rears its ugy head the most just as our minds are trying to quiet for sleep.  The ego does not like a quiet mind.  It fears it will be replaced by peace, that you will forget it in your dreams.  The subconscious mind is awake as you sleep and the ego doesn’t want it filled with happy thoughts, it wants you to worry and stress and in doing so program your subconscious to fear.  Realizing this, tell yourself that there is nothing you can do about the issue at that moment and that things will look better in the morning.  Realize that your day ahead will be better.  The universe is working to put all your plans into place as you sleep.  Visualize your desired outcome.  Imagine how you feel if all your dreams are realized.  Work on these images and feelings.  Let the negative thoughts float by and ignore them.  See your desired outcome.  This gives your subconscious mind positive images on which to work during the night.  It will hasten the manifestation of desires and lessen your anxiety.

The ego always attacks when we are are closest to our goal.  It tries to put negativity into our head, changing our energy, and tries to get us to give up and let go of our goals.  It tells us it won’t work, that we’ll never be good enough, that the universe won’t supply us with what we need.  These are the lies of the ego trying to get you to live an ordinary life.  If we go ahead with our soul driven pursuits we will always have the universe conspiring for us.  So when you are feeling hopeless and think that nothing is working, remember that the ego attacks hardest when we are closest to realizing the things we need and desire.  So if you are feeling overly anxious, it’s a good sign that you are close to victory.

Another way to deal with anxiety is to do something physical.  Take a walk in the woods, do some yoga, ride a bicycle, go for a swim, anything that gets your muscles going and your body moving.  The stressful energy of anxiety needs to be released from your body.  Stretching is really good for that.  Yoga is good for that.  Nature is also an excellent way to release stress, so spend time in nature.

A regular meditation practice is one of your most powerful tools in ridding your life of anxiety.  Meditation is a way to bring the mind into Source and the more you meditate the longer you stay in Source, until at a certain point you live your life in full presence without stress or anxiety.  You can’t beat that!  If you want to live a life free of stress and anxiety, practice meditation daily.

Sometimes using visualization will help us calm down and deal with the anxiety.  When you feel anxious, close your eyes.  Imagine that you are furiously paddling a boat up river, against the current.  It is hard paddling and you are frustrated, anxious that you won’t make it.  Stop paddling.   Let the boat be turned around by the current and take you with the flow.  At first the water will still be rushing, but then it will become placid.  Look at all the beautful scenery you have been missing while furiously trying to stop the flow.  It’s amazing, a miracle of natural beauty.  You are floating serenely down a river, the sun is warming you, the skies are clear.  You hear the birds singing and see dragon flies skimming over the surface of the water.  Life is peaceful.

Your life is like that river.  If you are constantly fighting the current situation (pun intended) then you are wasting your energy.  You are giving energy to the negative.  Aceept it.  Read Good Luck, Bad Luck again.  Believe the universe is conspiring for you.  You are closer than you think.

You are a human and so you will have anxiety, but, you are so much more than a human.  You are the energy of the universe and you know that your power is far stronger than the ego.  Listen to the inner voice telling you that there is light coming and that you will be alright.  Listen to the voice of your inner light.  Listen to the voice of your enthusiasm and your knowledge that with the power of the universe, the power you hold,  you can transform your life.  You are infinite abundance.

Encourage others on their journeys.  Support the dreams of others.  We are all connected and when you support the dreams of others you support your own vision.  Let go of anxiety and take hold of your power.

Some powerful affirmations:

  • As I sleep the universe continues to work on realizing my dreams.
  • I recognize when the ego tries to instill fear in me and I listen to my enthusiasm.
  • I have the power of the universe working for me.
  • I live a life of wonder and miracles.
  • I take time to enjoy my life knowing that it is not a struggle but a miracle.
  • I allow myself to feel anxiety knowing that it is natural and knowing that it is not the truth.
  • I am ready to accept my perfect life.

Imagine yourself with friends and family celebrating your victory.

Beliefs precede thoughts. What do you believe?

“Imagination is everything.  It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” ~Albert Einstein

Why do we have certain thoughts?  Why do we imagine specific scenarios?  Our thoughts and imagination depend upon our beliefs.  We don’t think that we have to get a college education in order to be a success unless it is a belief.  We don’t think that we have to be a good person in order to lead a successful life unless it is a belief.  We do not think that in order to be wealthy we have to step on some people as we climb the ladder unless it is a belief.  We don’t think that all wealthy people are greedy unless it is a belief.  We don’t think that we are never going to get to travel to Europe unless there is a belief that we can’t manifest it.

All of our beliefs precede our thoughts, precede our imagination.  We can’t think of accomplishing something if we have a belief that it is beyond us or believe that we don’t deserve it or believe that we aren’t talented enough.  Listen to your thoughts sometimes.  You may be surprised at what you think and say.  Simply saying, “What an idiot,” about yourself after doing something that may not have been the right thing to do is a little harsh.  Hearing of someone’s accomplishment, sighing and saying, “Wow, that must be incredible,” speaks a lot about whether you think you’ll be able to do it.  Of course, if you follow that with, “I’m going to  love doing that,” it’s another matter.

Often our beliefs are unknown to us on a conscious level.  We are inhibited by our negative beliefs nonetheless.  They are a core from which we draw our thoughts and from which we function.  We can override our beliefs by either recognizing them and dispelling them or by placing our new beliefs in the forefront of our consciousness and reminding ourselves through affirmations what our true self beliefs are, not the ones we were raised to believe.  The true beliefs are the ones we choose ourselves consciously with a knowing and a conviction of their truth.

So when we seem to be stuck with our manifesting, it may not be that we are thinking the wrong thoughts.  It may be that the thoughts are not charged with the energy of a belief.  If we truly believe that good people do not get rich, that money is the root of all evil, or that having money is for those other people with the perfect hair and teeth flying first class then our thoughts are like empty cups, they will nourish nothing.  Charge your thoughts with your new well-chosen beliefs.

Our brain can not differentiate an external physical world from our imagination.  When we are dreaming we think it is real.  It is the same with our thoughts.  Our physical body responds as if it was our reality.  When athletes are hooked up to brain electrodes and told to visualize performing an athletic event their brain reacts as if they are actually performing; the same muscles that get messages from the brain during the actual performance, get the messages when they are visualizing it.  Our brain perceives the thoughts as reality. When we think we are happy, we feel happy.  When we see ourselves in a desired circumstance our emotions respond as if it already existed.  This is how we get the universe to respond in kind.  If we think something is possible, if we believe, then we can manifest that reality.  If we allow ourselves to believe that something is possible our actions will begin to follow our thoughts.

If we truly believe that we are deserving of all we desire and that there are no caveats to reaching our goals then we are unstoppable.  Recognize your self-sabotaging beliefs and tell them they no longer hold a place in your paradigm.  Tell them that in your world you are the manifestor and that the cultural beliefs, the societal beliefs, and the religious beliefs you once held no longer ring true.  Believe that you can do anything.  Look at all the people who are successful.  Are they all alike?  NO.  They come from many different cultures, many religious backgrounds, different education, and have different physical and mental attributes.  The one thing they do hold in common is the belief that they can accomplish their dreams.  You can share that belief.  Go ahead, share it.   I believe!

I believe in these affirmations:

  • I believe that I deserve to fulfill my dreams
  • I believe that the universe is conspiring with me to achieve my goals.
  • I believe that my thoughts manifest my life.
  • I believe that I am equal to any task that leads to my dream fulfilled.
  • I believe that all people, including me, can have their wishes come true.

Imagine that you are a small child and someone tells you that you can’t be successful.  What do you say to them?

Two of the best books on manifesting are by Wayne Dyer, Wishes Fulfilled  and by Mike Dooley, Leveraging the Universe.  I would highly recommend either of them.
